Swept Away
Swept away in the clear, blue sky
In a race I was bound to tie.
The air, so thin, filled my chest
I was [I knew] not at my best
Swept away, I fell so fast
Closing the gap from air to grass
I didn’t move, nor make a sound
Nobody listened; no-one around
Balls of cotton slid right through me
The fading sunlight did not soothe me
Deeper I fell, into the birds
We did not exchange any foul words
Closer still, I saw some cement
Blue and brown; I did lament
The Earth, it was getting so near
That, for sure, was very clear
A few moments and it would end
Not a soul my body could mend
A rush of joy replaced the dread
But it didn’t matter, I was already dead
